Geneva, Vienna, 10 July 2020 - Over 80 percent of the global workforce has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown measures taken to contain it, according to a recent study by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Technology and Trafficking in Persons during COVID-19 and beyond - WSIS TalkX - 12 May 2020
The global expansion of modern technology has brought about considerable change, as well as several challenges, such as increasing anonymity online. Internet has since become an ideal space for human traffickers to recruit and exploit victims, in faster and more cost-effective ways. The new reality of COVID-19 may be pushing this further afield, including by increasing the use of technology to facilitate criminal conduct and disrupting prevention and response services. Despite the pitfalls of technology in the context of human trafficking, technology can be, however, a defining factor in increasing the capacity of anti-trafficking responses beyond traditional human resources. Vienna – 6 April 2020 - The Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT), a lead policy mechanism to coordinate anti-trafficking responses within and beyond the UN system, has released an Issue Brief on Non-Punishment of Victims of Trafficking.
Promoting a human-rights approach in addressing trafficking in persons in supply chains - Geneva - 27 February 2020
Corporations and businesses, governments and international organizations, as well as consumers, all have a role to play in preventing, mitigating and addressing the risks of exploitative labour in supply chains.
ICAT promotes multi-stakeholder partnerships to address trafficking in supply chains, including through public procurement - Vienna - 09 September 2019
On 9 September 2019, ICAT convened a policy dialogue to advance State responses to trafficking in persons in supply chains, including through sustainable procurement processes. A multi-stakeholder panel of national experts and practitioners briefed a large gathering of State representatives in the margins of the meeting of the intergovernmental Working Group on Trafficking in Persons of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.

Considering the expanding role of technology in trafficking in persons and the need for multi-pronged efforts, ICAT has promoted a dialogue across countries and practitioners to develop stronger responses to address the misuse of technology in facilitating trafficking in persons, but also to harness its useful potential to counter this crime.
ICAT Briefing on its Past, Present and Future - New York - 05 October 2018
On 5 October 2018, ICAT came together at the UN Headquarters in New York to deliver a briefing to Member States and civil society representatives, as the latest in a series of briefings held in New York and Vienna to provide an overview of ICAT’s growing body of work. This briefing was jointly organized by ICAT and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations.
